Festivals

Festivals are an integral part of Dahlonega's rich heritage and are a superb way to take in the outdoor beauty of the area. From the Dahlonega Trail Fest in March to the Old Fashioned Christmas celebration in December, more than a dozen fun-filled festivals are held throughout the year.

Looking for the perfect location to celebrate 4th of July with your family and friends? Pack up your lawn chairs and blankets and head on up to Dahlonega, only an hour’s drive north of Atlanta, for a full day of exciting activities and events that the entire family will enjoy! Visitors will be moved by the powerful visual of more than 700 memorial markers and American flags that are displayed along the major roadways and corridors leading into Dahlonega and around the Historic Downtown Square, honoring the brave veterans who fought to protect our freedom. A Patriotic Ceremony will be held in Hancock Park at 9:30 am to celebrate our nation’s independence. The fun-filled day will kick off with the Firecracker 5K followed by our famous 4th of July Parade. But, the family festivities don’t stop there! Hancock Park will be filled with tons of activities for everyone, including an All American Market, the Car Show presented by Dahlonega Car Club, a thrilling Adventure Zone, presented by Windstream, for children and adults of all ages, and our famous fireworks display brought to you by the University of North Georgia and the Cottrell Foundation! We hope to see you there! During the last weekend of September, two days of two-wheeled action will take center stage in Dahlonega, Georgia for Six Gap Century weekend. Hundreds of competitive adult and youth cyclists are expected to compete in over 10 races on Saturday, September 23 for the 6th Annual Six Gap Criterium. The following day, over 2,500 cyclists are expected to make the annual uphill pilgrimage in three non-competitive rides for the Six Gap Century and Three Gap Fifty. The Six Gap Criterium provides a one-kilometer, closed circuit for bicycle racers in the heart of downtown Dahlonega, a great spectator-friendly event to watch the cyclists pass multiple times at top speeds of 40 miles per hour. The start/finish line will be located on West Main Street across from the famous Historic Holly Theatre. Coming on September 24, 2017 and taking place in Georgia's Premier Cycling Venue, the Six Gap Century & Three Gap Fifty boasts many of the same roads and mountain climbs as the elite Tour de Georgia. Come ride the Ride of the Pros! The Six Gap Century?s ultra challenging route takes you up and down six of the steepest climbs in the North Georgia Mountains. Test your stamina with more than 11,200 feet of vertical climbing over the 104 mile course. Elevations for the six gaps in this ride range from 1,400 feet to 3,460 feet. The toughest climb, Hogpen Gap, will test even the strongest riders, averaging a 7% grade for seven miles, with sections as steep as 15%. 100 miles. 11,200 vertical feet. 2,500 friends. ... read more

Trick-or-Treat Dahlonega Ghosts, goblins, witches, wizards and more will be wandering the streets of Downtown Dahlonega on October 31, 2017 at Trick-or-Treat Dahlonega. This event, brought to the community by the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce and downtown merchants, provides a safe environment for parents to bring children trick or treating during daylight hours. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 31 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, rain or shine. Trick-or-Treat Dahlonega is intended for children ages 12 and under and appropriate costumes are appreciated! For safety reasons, the roads will be closed and re-routed during the event. Costume Contest at the Dahlonega Gold Museum at 6:00 PM Registration: 5:15 PM to 5:45 PM Age groups for costumes with 1st, 2nd, 3rd & most original awards Trunk-or-Treat presented by UNG Office of Residence Life 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM In parking lot 16 adjacent to Chestatee Street Please help Dahlonega keep this family fun tradition! Dahlonega's Old Fashioned Christmas is a month-long celebration held from November 24 through December 23, 2017, set in motion with the Lighting of the Square. A real home-town parade officially bringing Santa to town occurs the first Saturday in December. Plenty of other festive holiday events continue almost daily throughout December until after New Year's with caroling, entertainment, wine sampling and live theater Christmas events.
