The 5th Annual Dahlonega Trail Fest will be held on March 27-29, 2015 to celebrate Dahlonega's designation as an AT Trail Community by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Come celebrate ''Spring on Springer'' in Dahlonega, the southern gateway to the Appalachian Trail. The Trail Fest will include camping for hikers, speakers, films, music, shuttles to Springer Mountain and Amicalola Falls, equipment vendors, and workshops on such topics as safety, camping techniques, and equipment. Fun trail related activities such as a 10k and 5k trail run, information on area hikes, and local tours will be held as well as kid friendly outdoor activities. ... read more

The 11th Annual Dahlonega Literary Festival will occur March 28 & 29, 2015 in historic downtown Dahlonega, GA. This yearly celebration of books promises to delight anyone who is a lover of books and reading! Dahlonega Literary Festival authors include Raymond Atkins, Jackie K. Cooper, Delilah S. Dawson, Molly Harper, Kevin Hearne, Ann Hite, Man Martin, Frances Mayes, Cherie Priest, and many more. Illustrator Mark Braught will also share tips on character drawing and illustration. Festival highlights are mini writing and illustration workshops, RSVP lunch with your favorite author, author discussion panels, and an author meet-and-greet. Panel discussions include a variety of topics such as writing fiction, history, humor, suspense, and non-fiction. The Dahlonega Literary Festival, begun in 2004, celebrates books, writers, literacy, storytelling and literary performance art. Festival events will occur in various locations around the historic square of downtown Dahlonega, and all activities are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. The Bear on the Square Mountain Festival is an incredible weekend of music and art held Saturday and Sunday of the third weekend of April in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains. Old time and blue grass music will fill the Historic Public Square in Dahlonega, Georgia. Jamming goes on day and night around the square while other local, regional, and national musicians take the stage all day Saturday and Sunday. A juried artist's marketplace features traditional mountain art and crafts. Extensive music workshops, a Sunday morning Gospel Jam, a two-day program of storytelling, a street dance, a live auction, a heritage center demonstrating mountain traditions, and of course, food, complete the offerings, making Bear on the Square the perfect outing for the whole family. ... read more
